Arsenal’s Xhaka calls for top six Premier League clubs to qualify for UCL

Arsenal in Europa League final

Arsenal have booked their place in the 2019 Europa League final in Baku.

The Gunners would beat Valencia 7-3 over two legs in the semi-final.

Their opponents will be Chelsea, meaning it is the first time ever that all 4 finalists for the Europa League and Champions League are from the same nation.

Arsenal should also be pretty confident heading into the final as Unai Emery has already won the competition three times.

Xhaka wants 5th and 6th in Champions League

Before heading to Baku, though, Arsenal had one more Premier League clash to play vs Burnley.

Prior to facing Sean Dyche’s side, Granit Xhaka had been speaking about how he believes the top six Premier League clubs should all qualify for the Champions League:

“Every team that can get to a final is strong enough so, we know Chelsea, we play a lot against them.

“Four teams in the final shows everyone what a league the Premier League is and we hope we are ready for the final.

“You should have to go for the first six from the Premier League into the Champions League, so strong is the league.

“It is only four teams, four teams in the final now and so we can be proud.” As quoted by the Evening Standard.

Arsenal can make next season’s UCL if they win the Europa League.

However, barring a final-day miracle, they couldn’t have finished any higher than 5th in the league this campaign. This may well have prompted Xhaka’s recent comments.

Arsenal went on to secure 5th-spot with a 3-1 win over Burnley that saw Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang score a brace to win this year’s Premier League Golden Boot award, alongside Mo Salah and Sadio Mane.
