LONDON – Hasil manis dipetik Arsenal di pentas Piala FA 2019-2020. Tim berjuluk The Gunners itu memastikan diri keluar sebagai kampiun di Piala FA usai mengalahkan Chelsea di partai final dengan skor 2-1.
Dua gol Arsenal dalam laga yang berlangsung di Stadion Wembley, Minggu (2/8/2020) dini hari WIB itu dicetak oleh Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang pada menit ke-28 dan 67. Sementara itu, gol semata wayang The Blues –julukan Chelsea– dicetak oleh Christian Pulisic pada menit kelima.
Hasil tersebut membuat Arsenal semakin memantapkan dirinya sebagai klub tersukses di Piala FA. Sejauh ini, mereka tercatat telah meraih 14 trofi di ajang tersebut. Selain pada musim 2019-2020, trofi tersebut diraih pada gelaran Piala FA 1929-1930, 1935-1936, 1949-1950, 1970-1971, 1978-1979, 1992-1993, 1997-1998, 2001-2002, 2002-2003, 2004-2005, 2013-2014, 2014-2015, dan 2016-2017.
Dengan jumlah tersebut, Arsenal menjadi tim yang paling banyak menjadi kampiun di Piala FA. Tim asuhan Mikel Arteta itu unggul dua trofi atas Manchester United yang berada di urutan kedua. Man United tercatat sudah 12 kali menyegel gelar juara.
Kemudian, di urutan ketiga dan keempat ada Chelsea dan Tottenham Hotspur yang sama-sama telah meraih delapan trofi. Liverpool dan Aston Villa mengisi tempat kelima dan keenam secara beruntun dengan koleksi tujuh trofi Piala FA.
Sementara itu, Manchester City yang tampil apik dalam dua musim terakhir di Piala FA, mereka berada di urutan kedelapan dalam daftar koleksi gelar juara tim di ajang tersebut. The Citizens –julukan Man City– telah meraih enam gelar juara sejauh ini.

KUALA LUMPUR: One of the most exciting races in the Motorcycle Grand Prix (MotoGP) world calendar, the Malaysian GP, which was scheduled to be held from Oct 30 to Nov 1, has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
MotoGP governing bodies – the International Motorcycling Federation (FIM), International Road-Racing Teams Association (IRTA) and Dorna Sports – announced in a joint statement today that apart from the race at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC), they have also cancelled the Argentina and Thailand GPs.
The governing bodies, however, have added another GP in Europe (venue not decided yet) scheduled to take place from Nov 20-22, which will serve as the season finale, thus making the 2020 season fully raced in Europe.
The statement also pointed out that Dorna had begun working with the promoters of Argentina and Malaysian GPs to determine possible dates for the events in 2021, with plans in place to welcome fans back to the circuits, while an agreement had also been reached with the Chang Circuit in Buriram, Thailand to remain on the calendar until at least 2026.
SIC has been hosting MotoGP races since 1999, attracting over 100,000 fans over race weekends for the past few editions.
Dorna Sports chief executive officer Carmelo Ezpeleta lamented the cancellation of the three races, saying they would be very much missed this year as passionate fans would often travel across continents to catch the best two-wheel action in the world.
“The arrival of fans at Termas de Rio Hondo (Argentina), Buriram and Sepang is incredible, creating such an incredible atmosphere and welcome for the sport. We very much look forward to returning to Thailand, Argentina and Malaysia next year and, as always, I’d like to thank the fans for their patience and understanding,” she said.
Meanwhile, SIC CEO Azhan Shafriman Hanif, while clearly disappointed with the cancellation of Malaysian GP for the first time in over 20 years, hopes to come back bigger and better in 2021.
“We were looking forward to watching our local boys – Kasma Daniel, Khairul Idham Pawi, Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah – and the Petronas Sepang Racing Team, who have had a great start to the season, in action on home ground. But with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the safety of everyone is the main priority. We can’t afford to risk the health of others.
“I am sure this is sad news for fans in Malaysia and all over the world, who have made the event what it is today. We have seen an increasing number of spectators at the Malaysian GP year-on-year and we’d like to thank all our fans and partners for their continuous support.
“The best thing to do right now is to keep on supporting our local boys and team, who are still competing in the championship,” he said in a statement issued by SIC.
The Malaysian GP has been held in South-East Asia since 1991, the longest in the region, and the SIC has been a permanent fixture on the calendar since taking over from the Shah Alam Circuit and Johor Circuit in 1999.
The SIC is also one of the longest and most challenging circuits on the calendar and, no doubt, is one of the favourites among the riders and teams.
The 5.543km-long track has staged some all-time classic races over the years, providing fans with a unique experience on-and-off the track.

KUALA LUMPUR: Peningkatan jumlah kes COVID-19 di rantau ini dan juga seluruh dunia telah memaksa Persekutuan Bola Sepak ASEAN (AFF) menangguhkan Kejohanan Bola Sepak Piala Suzuki AFF 2020 ke tahun 2021.
Presiden AFF Mej Jen Khiev Sameth berkata keputusan itu dibuat selepas Jawatankuasa Pasukan Petugas Piala Suzuki AFF mengadakan perbincangan secara maya dengan ahli gabungannya, pada Khamis.
Beliau berkata badan pentadbir bola sepak itu telah mempertimbangkan beberapa faktor termasuk keselamatan dan kesihatan semua pihak, khususnya pemain, jurulatih, rakan kongsi, peminat dan orang ramai, sebelum membuat keputusan.
“Sejak bermulanya penularan COVID-19, AFF telah memantau panduan daripada Pertubuhan Kesihatan Sedunia (WHO), Kementerian Kesihatan, agensi kerajaan, Persekutuan Bola Sepak Antarabangsa (FIFA) dan Konfederasi Bola Sepak Asia (AFC),” katanya dalam satu kenyataan, pada Khamis.
“Seperti yang anda sedia maklum, pandemik ini terus memberi cabaran yang sangat besar khususnya dari segi kesihatan, sosial dan ekonomi kepada kita semua.
“Keutamaan AFF adalah kesihatan dan keselamatan keluarga bola sepak kita dan mengurangkan kesan pandemik ini.
“Dengan risiko penularan COVID-19 yang semakin meningkat, AFF tidak boleh meneruskan Piala Suzuki AFF 2020,” kata Sameth.
Menurut beliau, AFF akan terus bekerjasama erat dengan ahli gabungan dan rakan kongsi mereka untuk memantau situasi pandemik dan akan memberikan maklumat terkini mengenai tarikh dan perincian lain berkaitan edisi 2021 Piala AFF Suzuki.

“Walaupun kami agak kecewa kerana tidak dapat mengadakan kejohanan itu tahun ini, kami akan sentiasa bekerjasama dengan AFF untuk memantau keadaan dan berharap dapat bekerjasama dengan rakan-rakan kongsi kami untuk menganjurkan kejohanan yang terbaik untuk peminat di rantau ASEAN tahun depan,” kata Staiti.
Berdasarkan jadual awal, Kejohanan Bola Sepak Piala AFF Suzuki 2020 dijadualkan berlangsung dari 23 Nov hingga 31 Dis menggunakan format timbal balik seperti yang diperkenalkan pada 2018.
Thailand adalah pasukan paling cemerlang dalam pentas Piala Suzuki AFF dengan muncul sebagai juara sebanyak lima kali iaitu pada 1996, 2000, 2002, 2014 dan 2016.
Sementara Malaysia muncul sebagai juara pada 2010 di bawah bimbingan bekas ketua jurulatih skuad bola sepak kebangsaan, Datuk K. Rajagobal.
PARIS – Penggawa Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), Marco Verratti, mengatakan timnya saat ini belum memikirkan pertandingan kontra Atalanta di Liga Champions 2019-2020. Les Parisiens –julukan PSG– disebut tengah fokus pada laga final Piala Liga Pransis 2019-2020 melawan Olympique Lyon.
Kedua tim akan saling bentrok di markas PSG, Stade de France, pada Sabtu (1/8/2020) dini hari nanti. Meski lebih diunggulkan, Verratti mengimbau kepada rekan-rekannya untuk tidak memandang remeh tim lawan dan tetap bermain secara total di lapangan.
“Kami belum memikirkan permainan itu, pertandingan paling penting adalah besok (final Piala Liga Prancis 2019-2020 kontra Lyon),” ujar Verratti, seperti dilansir dari laman Football Italia, Jumat (31/7/2020).
“Kami senang bermain melawan Lyon, mereka adalah tim yang sangat baik. Kami harus melakukan persiapan lebih karena ini menjadi laga yang penting bagi kami,” lanjut mantan penggawa Delfino Pescara tersebut.
