Hector Bellerin hails four-goal Serge Gnabry after 7-2 win over Tottenham

Arsenal fans and players past and present could not help but revel in former Gunner Serge Gnabry’s four-goal rout of Tottenham in the Champions League group stage.

Spurs were soundly beaten 7-2 by German champions Bayern Munich in north London, and Gnabry notched four of them as he announced himself on the global stage.

Gnabry came through as a teenager at Arsenal but was sold by the club to Werder Bremen in 2016, moving to Bayern the year after.

Former team-mate Hector Bellerin tweeted “@SergeGnabry joke man” after the winger’s performance, while Gunners legend Ian Wright tweeted five applause emojis.

Arsenal fans endured mixed emotions, pleased to see a former Gunner score heavily against Tottenham, but regretful that the club sold such a promising talent.

“Thankfully Gnabry scored so many times that it stopped being sad and became absolutely hilarious,” Arsenal fan James McNicholas (also known as gunnerblog) tweeted.

Actor, comedian and Arsenal fan Matthew Lucas also celebrated, posting “What a goal by gnabry” while another fan joked “Grant Serge Gnabry the freedom of Islington immediately.”

Former Norway and Middlesbrough player Jan Aage Fjortoft meanwhile pointed to Gnabry’s unsuccessful loan spell at West Brom not long before he left English football.

“Gnabry 4 goals against Tottenham. WBA lost 1-0 at Leeds. You know what I mean,” he tweeted.

And former Tottenham striker Gary Lineker offered Spurs fans a small crumb of comfort after Gnabry’s hat-trick goal, tweeting: “Superb hat-trick from Serge Gnabry. Only consolation for @SpursOfficial is that @Arsenal let him slip through the net.”

Champions League winner and former Manchester United centre-back Rio Ferdinand was sympathetic towards Tottenham’s players on BT Sport, saying: “We’ve all been there. We got beat at United, 6-1 against Man City our arch rivals.

“That feeling is a horrendous feeling and as a player all you want is a game to come round again – you’d take a game tomorrow.

“It won’t go away completely but you want the opportunity to go out there and put on a performance and get a result to revitalise not only your team and staff, but the fans as well.”

Mei Yamaguchi plots another world title shot ahead of Japan

JAPAN’s Mei “V.V” Yamaguchi is preparing to dish out one of her best career performances against China’s Jenny “Lady GoGo” Huang at ONE: CENTURY PART II in Tokyo, Japan on Sunday, 13 October.

The DEEP Jewels Featherweight World Champion described her ONE Championship return at the biggest martial arts event in history inside the Ryogoku Kokugikan as an opportunity she never expected.

“It is amazing because I knew that a lot of Japanese fighters want to fight on that event, and I was assuming that I might not have the chance to fight this time because there are so many good fighters from Japan,” the 36-year-old said.

“There are also so many superstars on that card, but when I heard that my fight was on that event, I was so excited. I’m happy I can fight in front of the Japanese fans again.”

The hometown hero faces Huang in a rematch of their June 2017 encounter at ONE: LIGHT OF A NATION in Myanmar.

In their first battle, the Riki Gym standout put on a commanding performance as she submitted the Chinese warrior at the 4:00 mark of the second round.

“My strategy was to take her down, take her back and choke her out,” Yamaguchi said. “I was able to do what I needed to do in that cage. That was a good performance.”

Though much has changed since that meeting, “V.V” will be very cautious of any tricks Huang might have up her sleeve.

Yamaguchi is on a four-match win streak, and Huang has been on the losing end in her past four outings.

“I was okay with this choice,” the Japanese athlete said. “I think ONE Championship is telling me that I need to win this and I have to show the impact of how strong I am. That’s the mission for me this time.”

However, Yamaguchi knows she cannot leave the Circle in Tokyo with a decision. A dominant finish would give her the chance to plot her way toward the ONE Atomweight World Title.

“This win can’t be normal. It has to be very aggressive. It has to have an [big] impact so I can say I’m the challenger for the World Title,” she stressed.

“I need to finish her.”

ONE: CENTURY is the biggest World Championship martial arts event in history with 28 World Champions featured across various martial arts. No organization in history has ever promoted two full-scale World Championship events on the same day.

Puja-puji Sterling kepada Foden Usai Bawa Man City Tundukkan Zagreb

MANCHESTER – Penggawa Manchester City, Raheem Sterling, melontarkan pujian setinggi langit kepada rekan setimnya, yakni Phil Foden. Pujian diutarakan setelah Foden berhasil memberi kontribusi besar dalam kemenangan Man City atas Dinamo Zagreb di matchday kedua Grup C Liga Champions 2019-2020.

Man City memang sukses merengkuh poin penuh kala menjamu Dinamo Zagreb di Etihad Stadium, pada Rabu (2/10/2019) dini hari WIB. Laga diakhiri dengan manis oleh The Citizen –julukan Man City– dengan skor 2-0. Salah satu gol dipersembahkan oleh Foden pada menit ke-90+5, sementara satu gol lainnya tercipta lewat aksi Sterling pada menit ke-66.

Foden sendiri tak butuh waktu lama untuk memberi kontribusi besar kepada Man City dalam laga yang digelar dini hari tadi. Dimasukkan Josep Guardiola pada menit ke-90+1 untuk menggantikan David Silva, Foden langsung bisa menyarangkan bola empat menit kemudian ke gawang Dinamo Zagreb yang dikawal Dominik Livakovic.

Guardiola hails Sterling’s goalscoring instinct as City sink Dinamo Zagreb

Pep Guardiola hailed Raheem Sterling’s goalscoring instinct after he provided the decisive moment in Manchester City’s hard-fought Champions League win over Dinamo Zagreb.

England forward Sterling came off the bench to break the deadlock in the second half and put City on course for a 2-0 victory at the Etihad Stadium that took them to the top of Group C.

Sterling has improved year-on-year under Guardiola at City and his 66th-minute strike was his ninth goal of the campaign. He then provided the late assist for Phil Foden to wrap up the scoring in stoppage time.

City boss Guardiola said: “He’s a player who is always there. He has this talent, he loves to score goals. When crosses come he is always there – you have that feeling.

“I think he can still improve his finishing. Still there is a gap to being even more clinical, but it’s important that all the time he’s there and that’s why he’s been able to score the goals.

“A few days ago he missed chances at Everton but he was always thinking of the next one, and today the pass for Phil was perfect.”

City dominated the opening period but wasted several chances and, without the injured Kevin De Bruyne, were beginning to look laboured until Sterling’s introduction.

Guardiola said: “It was good. We didn’t concede a shot on target. We had huge possession, we created enough chances to score earlier but we were patient. We didn’t let them run. It was a good game.

“We had chances but they defended really well and that’s why it was difficult to score a goal.”

Guardiola was shown a yellow card for his angry reaction to a refereeing decision on a night when City might also have been aggrieved about a couple of VAR penalty calls.

Guardiola, however, refused to discuss the issues.

“No comment,” he said.

Dinamo did prove stubborn opponents but coach Nenad Bjelica admitted his side were second best.

He said: “We conceded that first goal in the best phase of our play. We were nervous a lot during the match, making mistakes.

“The home team had a lot of good chances and after we conceded we tried to turn to attack more.

“It was an open match but they are a level above us and they showed that today.”

Aubameyang buat Manchester United gigit jari

JARINGAN penyerang Arsenal, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang pada minit ke-58 membuatkan Manchester United gigit jari untuk meraih tiga mata penuh di Old Trafford selepas kedua-dua pasukan merekodkan keputusan seri 1-1 awal pagi tadi.

Dalam aksi ketujuh Liga Perdana Inggeris itu, The Gunners kelihatan tertekan selepas tuan rumah yang mendominasi perlawanan sehingga memperoleh gol pertama menerusi Scott McTominay pada minit ke-45.

Bagaimanapun ketika memasuki babak kedua perlawanan, anak buah Unai Emery kembali mendapat sentuhan dan memanfaatkan kesilapan benteng pertahanan lawan untuk menyamakan kedudukan.

Biarpun gagal untuk meraih tiga mata penuh, Aubameyang yang dianggap sebagai wira menyifatkan satu mata itu amat bermakna kerana Manchester United beraksi baik di gelanggang sendiri.

“Saya rasa pasukan berjuang dengan sangat baik pada hari ini. Kaki meraih satu mata. Sukar untuk beraksi di Old Trafford jadi kami menerima keputusan ini.

“Tidak mudah juga ada ketinggalan sebelum waktu rehat tetapi kami bangkit pada babak kedua dengan penuh bersemangat,” katanya Sky Sports.

Arsenal pada ketika ini menghuni tangga keempat liga dengan 12 mata manakala United dikedudukan 10 dengan 9 mata.

Hadapi Bayer Leverkusen, Sarri: Saya Merasa Optimis

TURIN – Pelatih Juventus, Maurizio Sarri, memiliki rasa optimis jelang menghadapi laga kedua Grup D Liga Champions 2019-2020. Bermain di Allianz Stadium, Turin, Italia, Rabu 2 Oktober 2019 dini hari WIB, Juventus akan menjamu Bayer Leverkusen.
