Social media is raving about Matthijs de Ligt again after he scored for Ajax in their Champions League semi-final second leg clash with Tottenham.
Spurs travelled to Amsterdam in hope of turning around a one-goal deficit in their semi-final clash with Ajax.
After Donny van de Beek’s goal handed Ajax a 1-0 win in the first leg, Spurs had to score two away from home in order to qualify.
That was always going to be a tough ask but Spurs’ task got even harder just four minutes into the clash.
De Ligt key for Ajax yet again
That is because Ajax’s captain fantastic Matthijs de Ligt scored yet another huge goal for the Amsterdam side.
De Ligt burst onto the scene in the 2016/17 season as a 17-year-old, full of potential.
While he made 11 appearances in the Eredivisie, it was the Europa League where he really made his name.
De Ligt featured in nine of Ajax’s games including the final against Manchester United.
Since then De Ligt has gone from strength to strength in such a short period of time.
Despite being just 19 years old, the centre-back is current Ajax captain and you could argue he’s at least in the top five central defenders in world football right now.
Most wouldn’t argue with that opinion after his first-half goal against Tottenham.
The youngster lost Kieran Tripper and towered over Dele Alli to score a brilliant glancing header.
Now, everyone is appreciating the phenomenon that is Matthijs de Ligt on social media.
